William Moore was a cabinet maker by trade and also a breeder of fine race horses, at one time there was a race track on the property. It was here that the famous horse Tom Hal paced, owned by William Yowell. A second story was added years later, by Thomas Moore who restored the residence and returned it to one of the most admired homes in Petersburg.
