AUCTIONEER’S NOTE: This sale contains items from the Montgomery/Tillman/Mason family of Palmetto Farm, a historic house built in 1847 and featured in the recent book, At Home in Tennessee R.S. Montgomery was one of the leading businessmen in Marshall and Bedford Counties in the mid-to-late 1800’s. His daughter Alice was married to James Fount Tillman, who was Registrar of the Treasury in the Cleveland administration. Sadie Tillman was missionary to China and The Tillman Chapel at the United Nations in New York City is named for her. Roberta Ransom Mason, granddaughter of R.S. Montgomery, was a Marshall County teacher for years and well-known artist in midstate.
